Superstition – SOL Day 14

Lots of sickness going ’round

like flu

Ma thought I had a fever

so she brought out

a evil egg

and rubbed it

all over my body.

Arms and legs,

forehead and bellybutton.

Saying

“Santisimo”-somethings

and having

“cura”- conversations

with someone else

in the room.

Old words I don’t understand.

She cracked it open

into a glass of water,

studied it like a scientist

watching a pearl float

at the bottom of the sea.

Was I supposed to drink it?

When I got to classs,

I just know I smelled

like egg.

“Huevo.”

I know that one.

What would I tell them when they asked?
