Counting down 10 things I’m thinking about*:
10 steps to my locker
9 blocks to walk home
8 months until my birthday
7 weeks until the crazy aunt comes to visit
6 days until I see my Dad again
5 times I looked at Melanie today
4 books I need to return to the library
3 assignments I haven’t turned in
2 flights of stairs to our front door
1 little sister I can’t wait to see when I get home.
*modeled from Shawnda’s By the Numbers
I introduced this kind of poem to my kids today and they took to it like fish to water!

A great slice narrowing from far away to what’s about to happen. Great structure!

This is a great way to consider what our students are thinking about during the school day. It’s been so long since I was 12. I always try to be mindful of their thoughts; and this poem is a wonderful glimpse into their thought life.

Lori, what perfect sentiments. So true. I think I’ll use this as an optional warm-up come Monday after Spring Break. A fun little thing, giving a jump of the heart.
Thank you!
